Finally. A REAL Tiny Home on Wheels Community to live in for the Huntsville, Alabama area!

On just under 7 acres, under a beautiful 100ft-high shade canopy of pine as well as some deciduous trees around a peaceful lake, we have developed “The Cottages at Pine Lake” – a Tiny Home on Wheels Community for long-term tiny house living to provide a welcoming, homely location for Tiny Home owners. Deliver your tiny house on wheels here so you can “Go Tiny & Be Free” on a forest or lake lot.

In addition to low monthly costs, we have a number of additional amenities to enhance your Tiny Home Community living experience (and we’re continuing to develop and add additional amenities and property features all the time!). What “The Cottages at Pine Lake” Is (and What It Isn’t)

This Isn’t for Everyone.
That’s Kind of the Point.

Downsizing your home and buying your own “Tiny House” outright can be a wonderful way to help you get more out of life, reduce your expenses and thereby maximize your discretionary income and lifestyle!

However, having a tiny house is only half of the solution – you still need a place to live in it!

And finding a suitable place to live in your tiny is actually quite challenging – I know from first-hand experience, having built my TaHOW Tiny Home back in 2016 that my wife and I lived in for 2 years (and now serves as an airbnb tiny home). I had to develop my own infrastructure on my own land just to live in this great new home I had (which was quite a lot of work and money, as you can probably imagine!)…

The Original Vision

This is what led to my original vision to find the right property to develop the best Tiny Home Community, purpose-built for Tiny Home owners to live their best life in a beautiful, peaceful setting, with infrastructure provided so owners could move-in and actually “Go Tiny & Be Free” (and long term).

And in late 2023 we found that property outside Huntsville, Alabama and spent 2 years developing it into “The Cottages at Pine Lake” Tiny Home Community you see today.

Bringing the Vision to Reality

Set amidst the foothills of what eventually leads to the Appalachian mountains, we have 20 tiny homes set on our prepared lots, some directly on the shore of our 2-acre private lake and others on forest lots.

The majority are long-term residents but we do have a few lots reserved up front on the lake as Airbnb / short-term rental tiny homes for guests and those tiny-curious, wanting to experience tiny home living for a night or week and see what tiny home living is like!

Joining our Wonderful Community

We only have a limited number of lots available, though we do plan to develop additional lots and phases in the future. To join our community, a one-time “key money” fee is paid which helps pay for the property infrastructure and funds the continuing improvements made to the property without having to charge monthly HOA or maintenance fees while at the same time gives you access to steeply discounted lot rent at only $300/mo currently (plus your monthly metered utility usage).

How it works

Simple, Honest, and Designed for the Long Term

Here’s how it works: You pay a one-time key money fee to secure your lot, and $300/mo covers your lot rent from there (plus metered utilities). No complicated lease structures (12 month lease), no surprise fees. When your home is built or ready, have it delivered to the property where we will place it on the lot, block it up and level it, connect your power, water & sewer hookups, and even provide temporary stairs so when you arrive you can walk right up, turn on the light and flush the toilet, ready to decorate or move right into.

The key money isn’t a deposit — it’s your contribution to the community. It’s what keeps this a place people are invested in, literally and figuratively. And because it’s paid up front, your monthly costs stay low for as long as you stay.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Do I need to already own a tiny home?

Yes, we provide a Forest or Lake lot for your certified tiny home on wheels, along with 30/50 amp metered electric connection, 1/2″ metered pex water & 3″ sewer pipe connection. You would need a tiny home builder to build you a home to have delivered to the property (most typical) or deliver or have delivered your existing tiny home on wheels. There are certain requirements that need to be met, ie, size, age, condition, type, etc to ensure your tiny house is a good fit for our community (and is safe, etc) but we have yet to turn down a certified tiny home on wheels (unless it was too large or not really a tiny home on wheels)…

What’s included (utilities, Wi-Fi, trash, amenities)?

Power, Water & Sewer will be connected to each Tiny Home in the community and residents will receive a daily breakdown and bill of their individual metered usage to the email address registered in their lease agreement (unless subsequently updated with a different one); no credit checks, no security deposits or activation fees needed for utilities. Lot rent of $300 + utility usage from prior month (billed in arears) will be due on the 1st of each month (your first month will be prorated). A late charge of 3% will be assessed on the 5th day of the month (+$2/day) if both bills are not paid in full prior to the 5th. Residents should alert management immediately if there is an issue with any of their utility services (water leak, etc). Using an example of 30 gallons of water per day (~900 gal/mo) and 6.7kwh of power per day (~200kwh/mo), you can expect a total utility bill of ~$73, which includes sewer usage as well (+ no charge for WiFi & Trash service). We have one resident who only uses 10 gallons of water per day and only 4.67 kWh/day of power which is a $33/mo utility bill (and others who use a lot more). We maintain the wifi network, keep the general property grounds, actively manage the lake and fountains, dog parks, walking trail, community areas, property security features, etc.

Are pets allowed?

Yes! Of course, we want well-behaved, socialized pets for the enjoyment and safety of all residents (and the pets!), and all pets must remain on leash (or inside the home if off leash or in the dog park only) but the dog park will have a long run and fresh water from the spring and nice sturdy fences to keep them securely inside (assuming they’re not jumpers). There’s also a 1/3-mile or so walking trail you can take that goes around the lake and property edges to help give your pet some nice exercise and scenery. Limit of 2 pets per tiny home (ie, 1 dog & 1 cat, or 2 dogs, or 2 cats; doesn’t apply to birds or fish of course)

Are Airbnbs / Short Term Rentals (STRs) allowed?

There are a limited number of lots on the south (front entrance) side of the Lake that can be used for short term rentals – separate from the rest of the community. But no other homes are allowed to be used for any kind of short term or long term rental; the property is designed for long term residents only.

For the rest of the property, behind the main gate: For the safety and security and peace of mind of the long-term residents and community of “The Cottages”, only the tiny home owner and directly related family members (proof required) of the Tiny Home owner(s) are allowed to live on the property (a family member buying or helping a family member buy their home for example, for long term living on the property). Unknown and/or frequently changing guests cause numerous issues for surrounding neighbors, no matter how much painstaking detail and effort is put into preventing this from happening with short term rentals (ask me how I know…). So any and all rental units (STR allowed only) will be separated and kept at the front of the property, allowing this option for up to 10 people who would like the option to have a tiny house part of the year for them to use, but to perhaps offset some of their expenses when not living in their home on the property by renting it out for others to try out tiny living and enjoy.

How do walkthroughs work?

You need to schedule a date and time to walk through or tour the property to minimize the interruption and for the safety of our residents.

Will we be able to put up any fencing, decks, landscaping around our home?

In short, yes, with approval. All the lots will be different sizes due to the wide variety of potential Tiny Home models that will be on the property (different lengths and widths) so its impossible to say how much space will be available for each home/lot for these items so these things will be allowed, with approval once we know what homes will be going where and what size they are and the property has been developed.

Well it’s been 1-1/2 years now of my living at The Cottages at Pine Lake Tiny Home Community. I want you to know that I made the right decision moving here to live out my final chapters, I am most grateful and blessed to live on this property. It’s affordable and just what I wanted, it’s country but not too far from places to shop and have fun times. I look forward to floating in the lake this summer and have enjoyed the bonfires and gatherings we have. I also enjoy Woodville, especially the library where there’s a weekly game day for seniors and a monthly Bingo Night at the Town Hall Community Center.

This is my favorite time of year. We all get to plant our flowers and it looks so beautiful.
